This is a fascinating wine, a cross-border alpine blend made by respected Alto Adige producer Alois Lageder. Every year he draws from a cocktail of grapes including Pinot Grigio, Macabeu, Xarel-lo, Garganega, Moscato Giallo and Pinot Bianco. These come from organic vineyards in different countries depending on the vintage, including Italy, Slovenia, Switzerland and France. The fruit for this 2021 vintage was sourced from Alto Adige, Hungary and the Pyrenees. As you might expect from a 'mountain' white, this is vinified without the use of oak, and is crisp and fresh, herby, aromatic and floral – like a breath of fresh air.
