Oregon 1991: Drink soon

Initially rather under-rated, this vintage produced a number of good wines

Weather Conditions

Normal winter was followed by a cool spring that pushed cool weather well into late June. Bud-break was late, occurring in late June, early July in parts of the Willamette Valley. Warm weather finally appeared in August, and from then on the fruit began to ripen at a smooth, even pace. Some vineyards in Oregon had difficulties ripening all of the fruit, but the better growers cluster thinned in mid-August and their vines yielded superior fruit. A late harvest varying widely in quality depending upon the crop size.
