The eminent wine critic, who recently celebrated 30 years of writing for Decanter, officially takes up his post on 1 August of this year. He is the first person to hold the title and will preside over the Trust’s first graduation ceremony for diploma-level graduates.

The appointment adds to Broadbent’s already long list of duties and honours including president of the Wine and Food Society, member of the Academie du Vin de Bordeaux, Chevalier de l’Ordre Nationale de Mérite and Decanter Man of the Year.

‘As the Trust continues to grow in the UK and expand its reach over the globe it is very fitting that a name of such renown has accepted this appointment,’ said WSET boss Ian Harris.

The 38 year-old WSET provides wine education in 38 countries and nine languages and boasts over 17,000 students a year.
