Paul Henry, one of the leading figures in the global promotion of Australian wine, has resigned from his post with the Australian Wine & Brandy Corporation (AWBC).

AWBC chief executive Andrew Cheesman said Henry, general manager – market development, would leave the organisation on 10 December, but would continue to consult for the AWBC on fine wine marketing ‘over the coming periods’.

UK-born Henry had spent seven years in the general manager post and played a key role in the development and execution of Australia’s revamped Directions to 2025 generic promotional strategy.

Cheesman said: ‘After seven years of service to the organisation and to the Australian wine sector, in which time he has made a significant contribution to the development and implementation of key industry strategies, Paul has decided to explore broader opportunities and personal development outside the organisation.’

He added that the AWBC would now look for a new marketing director, taking the opportunity to broaden a number of other existing roles for current employees.

‘AWBC are building a commercially aware and customer-focused culture, where industry needs are at the very centre of our business,’ Cheesman said.

‘We are embracing change which includes introducing new people, new ideas and a different approach into our business.’

Henry’s departure follows the resignation last month of Lisa McGovern from the post of regional director UK/Ireland/EU for Wine Australia, after less than 18 months in the job.
