The girls – whose names have yet to be revealed – were born last Thursday evening in San Francisco.
Jean-Charles Boisset said the couple were ‘thrilled’ by the births, adding that mother and babies were both resting and doing well.
The parents are already displaying a sense of humour in dressing their new arrivals – a picture emailed to a website by Boisset showed one baby wearing an outfit decorated with ‘barefoot’ motifs (the name of one of Gallo’s wine brands), and the other’s outfit decorated with rabbits (‘French Rabbit’ is the name of a Boisset product).
The pair’s wedding in December 2009 made them arguably the most powerful couple in the world of wine.
Both feature in the top half of Decanter’s recently released Power List 2011 – a rundown of wine’s 50 most influential figures – with Gallo at number 15 and Boisset ten places lower at 25.
Gina Gallo is the grand-daughter of Julio Gallo, who co-founded the world’s biggest wine company with brother Ernest in 1933.
Meanwhile, Boisset is the largest wine producer in Burgundy and one of the largest in France, and also has a healthy presence in California.
