Oxford, Copenhagen make Left Bank Bordeaux Cup final
- Friday 15 June 2012
Amateur wine tasters at Oxford and Copenhagen will be going for gold after beating rivals from the UK Universities of Cambridge and St Andrew's, as well as Nyenrode Business Universiteit in the Netherlands, in the European semi-final.
This year for the first time Decanter is sponsoring the Left Bank Bordeaux Cup (LBBC), which is now in its 11th and biggest year. Baron Eric de Rothschild, owner of Chateau Lafite Rothschild, is chairing the international tasting contest. It is exclusively for amateur university wine clubs.
Out of 42 teams that entered this year's tournament, just eight will compete in the final at Pauillac-based Lafite on 28 June.
Oxford and Copenhagen will be pitted against Centrale Lille and EDHEC Lille from France, Jiao Tong University from Shanghai and City U from Hong Kong, as well as Chicago and Wharton Business Schools from the US.
Organiser Commanderie du Bontemps said the competition 'contributes to the far-reaching international influence of fine wines from Bordeaux’s Left Bank. It represents an opportunity to establish a link between students of diverse cultures.'
