History:
Château Boyd-Cantenac was founded by an Irishman, Jacques Boyd, in the mid-1700s (before that the vines had been looked after by the local Benedictine Priory). By the 1800s, the estate had passed to family member John Lewis Brown, a Scotsman, and later still was divided into two properties: Cantenac-Brown, which today includes an eye-catching brick-built château, and the château-less Boyd-Cantenac. The latter passed first to the Ginestet family (then owners of Château Margaux) and second, in 1932, to the Guillemets who already owned Château Pouget. For many decades the wines of Pouget and Body-Cantenac were produced together in the same winery, but in early 1980s the production of Boyd-Cantenac became a distinct undertaking with beneficial consequences.
