Tesco, Finest, Soave, Classico Superiore, Veneto, 2017

There are some great-value Italian whites under the Tesco Finest label, and this Soave is a standout. The grapes were sourced from south-facing vineyards, where the extra sunshine provides optimum grape-ripening conditions. That said, this is not a blowsy fruit-bomb. A third of the wine is oak-aged for 10 months, lending an attractive structure and food-friendliness. Expressive, with citrus and peach kernel, and underlying minerality.
