Fans of the Primitivo grape from southern Italy might find this example from the heart of Puglia more restrained initially than some other, more explosively fruity examples. It doesn't have the opaque blackness in the glass that some Primitivo wines have either. Leave it to open up though and, with air, aromas of ripe, almost candied black cherry fruit will emerge. The wine spends six months in medium-toasted French oak barrels, before being bottled and given a further four months of age. Fairly simple, this would be a good match for grilled meats, sausages or pizza.
