Tinazzi: The soul of Veneto

There are three steps to being a forward-thinking winery. The first – and most obvious – is making great wine. The second is caring for your estates and vineyards to ensure that future generations will be able to continue your good work. And the third is sharing your dream with the rest of the world. Tinazzi have proved to be exemplary at all three.

The business has grown since Eugenio Tinazzi started it in 1968, to include vineyards in Tuscany and Puglia. Yet its spiritual home remains in Veneto around the southeastern edges of Lake Garda.

Tinazzi is well known for a strong and growing commitment to sustainability, and for the accessibility of its wines. For example, its Valpolicella and Amarone, produced from high vineyards, are brighter and less muscular than many wines from the region.

That accessibility now extends beyond the glass to a superb range of accommodation and visitor experiences that capture the vision of the company and the soul of Veneto. There is surely no better way to appreciate the quality of the wine range than to taste them first-hand in the very place they are made.

Authentic experiences

For those who want to understand the workings of a winery, Tinazzi offers a visit to the pressing cellar in Sant’Ambrogio di Valpolicella. As well as winery and cellar visits, the tasting includes wines from across the portfolio. A great snapshot of all that the family produces, it showcases wines from Tinazzi’s three Veneto estates as well as its well-known brand Ca’ de Rocchi, with iconic labels La Bastia and Monteré.

But there are few more enjoyable experiences for a wine lover than actually staying among the vines, and Tinazzi has some amazing options. Cascina Montelupo, in the hills a few kilometres south of Garda, has a dozen contemporary apartments and pool. With trails for hiking and mountain biking, it’s a tranquil spot surrounded by vineyards.

Visitors can taste the three iconic wines that make up the limited-edition Lupo line: a fresh white blend, a red made from the local Spigamonti grape, and the winery’s first traditional-method release made from Chardonnay.

Poderi Campopian, meanwhile, is a rustic oasis set in the highest vineyards in Valpolicella, where you can take a picnic into the vines or rent an e-bike to explore. Here visitors can taste the estate’s three flagship wines: Lunante, Reguso and Marziale. Only released in limited quantities, these are beautiful examples of Tinazzi’s interpretation of the Valpolicella terroir.

Tenuta Valleselle, situated in Bardolino, offers cookery classes where you can learn how to make fresh pasta and tiramisu and also enjoy wines from Pinot Grigio whites to Bardolino and Chiaretto styles.
