Mouton releases at €100

Chateau Mouton Rothschild has released its 2008 – the lowest so far of the First Growths at €100 a bottle.

This is exactly half the price of the 2007 vintage – which was 26% lower than the 2006 vintage.

This confirms the first growths’ strategy, as decanter.com reported in its news story of 31 March, First Growths tipped for €100 a bottle as market takes control, to release at very low prices in order to remain in the market.

Seasoned Bordeaux observers reckon first tranches will be very small indeed, released to those who bought the 2007 vintage. Subsequent tranches are likely to be very much more expensive as the first releases find their market level.

The prediction is that by Vinexpo in June, the top properties will be releasing tranches at the €180 mark.
