History:

Many of Du Tertre's vines occupy a raised gravel plateau (or 'tertre'), fine terroir,

enhanced by the holding's grand 18th century château. The origins of the estate pre-date the château - in the Middle Ages the land belonged to the oldest of Médoc's Seigneuries, Arsac. More noble owners followed, in particular, Baron Henri de Koenigswarter, who raised the Château's reputation to its 19th century zenith. Then, downfall: not till 1961 and the arrival of the Gasquéton family (owners of Calon-Ségur) were the ravages of phylloxera, recession and war brought under control. But real salvation has come with Dutch businessman Eric Albada Jelgersma (owner of neighbouring Château Giscours) who since 1977 has been steadily restoring the wine's reputation.
