History:
Barton family links with Bordeaux date from 1722 when an enterprising Thomas Barton left Ireland to establish a wine trading company there. A century later, it was his grandson's turn, who not only co-founded the still existant wine brand Barton & Guestier but during the 1820s bought the Léoville Barton estate. He already owned Château Langoa. Historically, Léoville Barton was once part of the vast Léoville domain which was broken up after the Marquis de la Cases fled the French Revolution. In 1983, both Langoa and Léoville Barton were inherited by descendant Anthony Barton, creating a record for the longest single-family ownership of a Médoc château - over 180 years.
