First Costa Rica winery launched
- Tuesday 20 March 2012
Damskey (pictured) told Decanter.com he planted 4ha of Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Syrah and Grenache in December 2011.
The winery and vineyards are located above the small city of Copey in central Costa Rica, at an altitude of 2000m.
'Costa Rica will present a challenge but you can always adapt to local conditions and the high altitude site shows great promise for grape growing', Damskey said.
Damskey's team have also been experimenting with five other varieties, including Zinfandel and Merlot.
Their first commercial vintage will be released in 2015.

We Hope to see those wines here in our restaurant, I dont know the name of winery, but they can take us into account to support them work by including that wine in our wine menu, if they really produce a quality wine, we are going to have that wine in the restaurant.

How can they plant a vineyard in a tropical zone, unless you are at a higher elevation? It must have a good exposure and only one crop or ripening season a year ,just to grow decent wine grape.Good Luck.
