Vinexpo Asia-Pacific opens in Hong Kong
- Tuesday 29 May 2012
Vinexpo Asia-Pacific is the region’s largest wine and spirits fair and is expected to see some 14,000 visitors from 28 countries through the doors over the next three days.
The fair, opened by Gregory So Kam-leung, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of Hong Kong, is dedicated wines and spirits trade professionals targeting the Asian market.
Latest figures released by Vinexpo forecast that more than half of the worldwide growth in wine consumption between 2012 and 2015 will come from Asia.
‘In terms of consumption volume in Asia, it's grown 100 percent in the past five years. When you look at the per-capita consumption, there's a bright future,’ Vinexpo chief executive Robert Beynat said.
The first day of the fair coincides with the opening of the Decanter Asia Wine Awards, a new competition for wines targeted at the Asian market.
Decanter is amongst the 1,050 exhibitors at the fair, showing over 80 award-winning wines from the 2012 Decanter World Wine Awards.
On Wednesday, Decanter will also be presenting a Vinexpo seminar entitled ‘Discovering the Chinese Wine Lover’.
Vinexpo Asia-Pacific runs from 29 – 31 May in Hong Kong.
