Sant’Alberto (Tuscany)

Winemaking property

Owning your own vineyard is probably one of the finest and most satisfying things one can do in life. Savouring fine wines, understanding their bouquet and acknowledging their flavour is part of the very essence of life itself. So wouldn't it be wonderful to own a home with its own vineyard? Well you can!

Italy produces some of the best known and finest wines in the world and currently being offered on the market is a unique home, Podere Sant'Alberto in Tuscany. This remarkable property is located in a farming area and dates back to the 14th century. The small holding is 12 hectares comprising mixed woodland, fallow pasture, olive groves and of course vineyards – and this is where this property becomes extra special.

Sant'Alberto is more than a Tuscan house; it will appeal to anyone who wants wine-making to be a part of their life.

The enologist, Renato Baldisserotti established the current organic wine making methods at Sant'Alberto in 1996. These methods have been maintained and developed by the owner, Dr Nowell Stebbing who took up wine making after a career spent discovering and developing pharmaceuticals using fermentation technologies.

The older vineyard, planted with Sangiovese and white grapes is mixed with olive trees in a traditional manner. These vines are about 37years old.

The new vineyard is planted with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon and was established in 2001. There are 1.2 hectares under vines with 3,600 vines per hectatre. There are approximately 0.4 hectares each of Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Additional areas could be cultivated with vines.

The purpose of the new vineyard is to provide the French grapes, allowing the production of Super Tuscan wines. Two red wines are made, a Sangiovese/Merlot blend and a Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot blend. Three to four barriques of each of these reds are made (900 to 1,200 bottles each)

Grapes are organically grown and the wine fermented and bottled using traditional methods, all on the estate. Grapes are hand picked. This therefore is an estate for the wine buff – for those with a flair for business and a love of wines.

The main house comprises two reception rooms and five bedrooms. There is a one bedroom guest cottage and a barn together with cantina, garage and underground cantina. There is also a fermentation building and a swimming pool.

“This is a unique home for the right person”, says Steve Emmett of Brian A French & Associates who are currently marketing the property and who originally sold it to the current owners. “It can bring a lifetime of enjoyment, satisfaction and profit and the property is set amidst typical Tuscan rolling hills about ten minutes from Monteriggioni with a view of San Gimignano.”

The property is on the market for £1,466,667 (€2.2m)

The two-Michelin starred restaurant has earned world-wide acclaim: fine dining served with the best wines and champagnes. The cellar holds over 300 champagnes alone.

We would also arrange a private visit and tasting at a nearby champagne house, and there would also be time for a stroll around the city centre, including a visit to the gorgeous cathedral.

Our service includes return private jet flights, limousine transfers, champagne tasting, and the tasting lunch. Guide price: £1,425 per person based on six people flying by Citation CJ2 from Luton.

Should a day not be long enough, the château boasts a number of luxurious suites for overnight stays.
