Region 'Oregon Pinot Noir' - Year 1997
|drink now||A poor vintage with few wines of note|
The summer conditions were cooler than usual,. but there were just enough sunny days throughout the summer to raise expectations of a bumper crop. It begin with budbreak and flowering occurring without any traumas to speak of. It rained during July which is normal, and the moisture provided nutrients to many of the non-irrigated vineyards. Crop levels were adjusted to varying degrees by cluster thinning. Just as the picking was beginning to start with white varieties, substantial rain moved in and decided to stay during the harvest. Growers had to thin the crop more than once to obtain good fruit maturity with their Pinot Noir. Those who did were able to harvest ripe fruit free from mold.
